We are all Equal

"No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another,
and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him." --Thomas Jefferson to Francis Gilmer, 1816. ME 15:24

When we are respectful of fellow humans and all of Gods magnificent creation,
We are all truly equal in Gods eyes.
Regardless of race, physical attributes, spiritual beliefs, and what we choose to believe,
We all hold that Divine Spark which gives us our humanity.

Life has a way of separating us;
Divisions of though, action, and appearance threaten to be the end of our unity.
However, under our protective chests, our hearts beat the same brilliant red.

Innocence is quickly lost in the heat of spirited debate.
Our rights must be clearly defended;
But when we strive to enforce our own rights
By taking away those of others, does our own humanity end?

Some of us hear the message of loving ALL of humanity,
But then lock away our love of equality
In the most inner recesses of our embittered hearts.
Others of us hear Freedoms call, but give up
When it comes time to stand up to inequality and gross injustice.
Then, there are those of us who hear the message of freedom for all;
But the desire to get rich and have all others things proves to be their breaking point.

When we see people for whom they are and accept them as equals,
It brings to light the intricate beauty of all creation.

Thomas Jefferson quotes from http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/jefferson/quotations/jeff0150.htm.

Peace amidst the Storm

Peace is in my inner soul,

Though all around me chaos reigns.

The turmoil surrounding me takes its toil; the blood pulses rapidly in my veins.

Once, I though I would forever be lost,

Though I found I had much to gain.

Though life has had me tossed, I remain totally sane.

At the age of seventeen, I was celebrating my birthday.
Now I wasn’t so lean, though exhaustion had still made me pay.

Driving home, a car darted out from a side road.

Our cars where soon to impact.

My life almost ended in a single day.

I was in shock, and that was a fact.

All I knew was to be swept away.

Though I thought I was fine,

Soon I became very ill,

Bronchitis came, and pneumonia was soon mine,

Though being sick for me was run of the mill,

This time it was like I was constantly drowning.

The mucus welled up inside of my lungs,

It seemed like I was always frowning,

It was like I was stuck underwater, pulling up on the rungs

Trying to surface from the constant drowning.

But it all seemed to be to no avail.

Through God I got blessed assurance,

Slowly, I built up my endurance; it wasn’t in me to fail!

I’ll never forget the year I didn’t get bronchitis in the fall.

It was the first time since I was five!

The prescribed steroids made me less tall,

Though, what a small price to pay to be alive!

God gave me all that I have today, the might and reason to be alive,

Without faith, I can truly say, I would never have survived!

What Makes Life worth Living?

What Makes Life worth Living?

Is it the things we say,

Or is it the things we do

That makes life worthwhile each day?

A kind word from a friend,

Laughter every day,

Or imagination that never ends?

Without our special needs, will we pay?

Does losing hope make us lose our way?

Maybe no one seems to care

If only another to us, love would convey,

Instead of treating us like air.

What makes life something we can’t stand?

When all we feel is pain inside.

Maybe it is losing the things that had made it grand.

But maybe we found someone in which to confide,

I found that God is always there,

Call him/it/she what you want,

But God has been proven to care.

It’s nothing that you have to flaunt.

You’ll find even in secret sadness a reprieve in God’s eternal love.

All we have is Hope

Life is better when it is well lived.
Even though life is cruel and harsh,

A mere hundred years is so small

When compared to eternity.

We may inspire and we may hate,

Not knowing who we have inspired.

Our actions live on past our life.

Like George Bailey discovered in “It’s a Wonderful Life”,

You do more good than you ever know.

So, don’t give into despair when all you see are your own cares.

You may have saved someone from a private hell.

With life’s ups and downs, sometimes there is no solid ground.

When we have something for which to stand and reason for which to fight,

We will see that sheer will triumphs over might!

What is right will soon be shown; you just have to stick it out.

When the fight is the hardest, and you want to smile even though you are dying inside,

Try to make that smile come from somewhere deep inside.

Sometimes, you have to fight for your own pride.

Showing the world our inner hope may at first seem like a bad way to gloat,

But for all we know, we may be someone’s last hope.

So, when you are at the end of your rope, find someone to inspire,

Give what you can and receive kindness when it is offered.

For you never know, helping you may give someone else hope!

We’ll never get another chance to live well;

Make sure you do you best this time around!

To All the Virgins

God gives me reason to value my virginity.
I often feel alone in my conviction, overcome by my natural virility.
However, I value my body enough not to fall for any line.
Don't give your body and share your heart and soul to just anyone,
For diamonds can soon turn to coal.

Though it's easy to fall for each endearment;

You are the only one you can trust.
Getting to know someone first is smart;
with time, nothing comes of lust.

Saving yourself for marriage is smart.
When you can clearly see who you love,
Knowing this person with all his/her faults,
And finding it in your heart to love him/her in all his/her weaknesses,
You'll realize that love was well worth waiting for.

Love ALL of Me

This world seems to be so insecure,
Spinning around away from me with every turn.
Wherever I turn, little seems sure.
I just wish someone would love to see me, even in all my insecurities.
I wish that I could be truly loved.

What is love?

Softy descending like a dove? Or maybe pouncing like a lion.
Perhaps love does not come like a thief in the night, at a late hour,
but grows like a wild flower, heedless of all attempts to be killed.
Love is a need, which if not filled, May fester in the back of a sorrowful heart.
Love and happiness oft' are apart; Love and pain are seldom apart.
In this world, seldom are we to enjoy life without more than our share of strife.
To love is to give, though in our heart we may tow our lonely sorrow and our deep secret passion.
Unfulfilled love burns the heart until all that is left is a scarred shell.
When love is fulfilled, all scars fade away.
Left in its place is joy and happiness!

All I Have to Give

My lungs inside of me are dying;
I feel the burn every day.
That being so, I keep on trying.
Though I'm not really physically strong I can give in another way.
I'll never feel the pain of sheer remorse;
For Jesus gives my heart reason to care.
Though I have little, I still care of course;
I most desire that we strive to make life fair.

I give a penny,
You give a million;
Yet we both receive.
You get a thousand prayers,
I get my heart back.
