Kathleen Ann

Welcome to my Home Page

Hello, my name is Kathleen Ann Montgomery.  The Bible is my guide to life.  The biggest part of my life is my faith. Without faith in God, I would not be able to get by in life. I am a focused, intellectual, innovative girl who always has a smile on her face. Several times I almost died, but I am still here and healthier than I have been in years. People know me as a nice girl who sticks up for other people and voices my opinion!

Here I am dressed for the sunny Florida weather!

  My History

I was raised on a dairy and beef farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Carroll County, Virginia. By the time I was 17, I was diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). It is a life threatening lung disease I got as a result of chronic bronchitis and some times pneumonia every year since I was 5. Most people get COPD from smoking, but I got COPD even though I have never smoked and have rarely been around anyone who smoked. My Duke Pulmonologist (Lung Doctor) suggested that the salt air from the east coast of Florida might help my lungs. He wanted us to try it out as an alternative to lung surgery. So when I was 17 in August 2001, my mother, brother, and I moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida. Since we have moved to Florida, I haven't gotten pneumonia.  From April 2004 until April 2005, I didn't get bronchitis due to the fact I took four different doses of steroids (prescribed to help my breathing and help me get over bronchitis more quickly).  The only problem was the steroids have caused me to lose two inches of height.  Before the prescribed steroids for my lungs, I was 6' and now I am 5'10.  I caught bronchitis again.  However, after that I went through June without catching it again, even though I caught bronchitis in July 2006.  However, I have went a little over one year without bronchitis!  Even so, I did have a sinus infection.  Oh well.  This year, I hope to not need any medication to avoid bronchitis.

I come from a wonderful family.  My mother is my hero because she always loved my brother and me enough to do what she thought was best for us, regardless of the consequences.  When I was 17, she left behind everything to help me get better.  My brother is my hero because he stands up for me and defends me when I need it.  In addition, he's saved my life at least four times!  My grandma is my hero because she stands up for me.  She is my inspiration.  She is 94, living on her own, and has a clearer head than me!

My favorite hobby is reading.  Of school subjects, my favorites are History and Geography.  I enjoy studying business, business law, real estate, etc. Spanish, German, Sign Language, and HTML are languages that I am enjoying learning right now.  My talents are public speaking, web page design, speaking and reading Spanish fluently, playing the French horn and melaphone and having an overall excellent memory.  I also like going swimming, going to the beach, surfing the internet, listening to music, eating, watching TV, working out, and playing video games: Halo 1 and 2, mostly.

I like to read because it takes me to other worlds. The Bible is my guide to life.  My favorite book is the Scarlet Pimpernel. Of course, Shakespeare is one of the best writers. I enjoyed all of his writings. My favorite of his was A Winter's Tale.  My other overall favorite books are War and Peace, Love and War, the Lord of the Rings series, the Hobbit, Black Beauty, the Agatha Christie mysteries (especially And Then There Were None), The OdysseySense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. I enjoy all classics, because they have stood the test of time. Also, I read some non-fiction; mainly history, real estate, and business. Once in a while, I read an intriguing biography. The more modern books that I enjoy are John Grishom books, the Harry Potter series, Stephen King, and Sci-Fi Thrillers. I'll read anything!

My favorite song is Jesus Loves Me.  It is simple and uplifting.  It brings me up whenever I am down.  I listen to all types of music:  country music, classic church hymns, classical, classic rock, and bluegrass.  Some of my favorites artists are:  Mozart, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, John Michael Montgomery, Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, Johnny Cash, Green Day, Elvis Presley, Flogging Molly, Streetlight Manifesto, and Catch 22. My all-time favorite songs are "The Day the World Stop Turning" by Alan Jackson, "It's Only Make Believe" by Conway Twitty, "I Swear" by John Michael Montgomery, "I Breathe In, I Breathe Out," by Chris Cagle, "The Good Stuff" by Kenny Chesney and "I Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis Presley.

My favorite movie is definitely Superman Returns.  The Mating Game (1959) starring Debbie Reynolds and The King and I (1956) are close seconds. My favorite movie series are the Indiana Jones series, Jackie Chan movies, the Star Wars series, X-men I, II, and III, the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings series, The Transporter I and II, Spiderman I and II, and Ghost Busters I and II. The best horror movies are: the Stephan King movies.  I also like The Mummy (1932) and Night of the Living Dead (1968). Other favorites of mine are: War and Peace (1956), Spartacus (1960), the Pirates of the Caribbean I and II, Fools Rush In (1997), Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Bringing up Baby (1938), Bewitched, the Phantom of the Opera, Mutiny on the Bounty (1962), Troy, and the War of the Roses (1989).

The shows I try to catch every week are Desperate Housewives, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, LOST, Ghost Whisperer, Saturday Night Live, and The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson.  The History Channel and the news I watch a lot. My all time favorite Science Fiction shows are Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Outer Limits, Star Trek (the original, mostly), The Twilight Zone, Stargate SG1, and Stargate Atlantis.  I enjoy watching British Sitcoms such as Fawlty Towers, Are You Being Served?, The Vicar of Dibley, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Blackadder the III, and Keeping up Appearances. Ready to Surf

Sometimes, when I can’t breathe on the beach due to all the cigarette smoke, I go out into the water to get away.  The fresh ocean air feels like God sweeping out my lungs!

I am learning to get by on my own. Yes, I have a chronic illness and can't truely be on my own, since I could have trouble breathing. However, I have learned to feel independent, despite my circumstances. I am living with my mother and younger brother. Even though I probably won't be living on my own (I have COPD) for a while, I feel capable, strong, and even healthy. Right now, I am taking college courses on-line. I am going to first get a four-year business degree. Then, I will go to law school. I figure a business degree will provide lots of opportunites, just in case I am forced to economically provide for myself. If I earn enough money, I could pay people (like a maid) to do stuff that it is hard for me to do and to watch me in case I have trouble. I don't want to be dependent on my mom for the rest of my life. I really don't want my brother feeling like he has to provide for me in the future, either. I am single. Even so, it does not worry me. I plan my life based on me not ever getting married. I don't want to settle for just any guy. It will have to be one who is worth giving up my independence for. I want a guy who makes me smile and is admirable. He doesn't have to be smart, just someone who is curious and enjoys learning new things. I believe there are plenty of suitable guys out there, but I'm just not very mobile right now! When I go out places, the cigarette smoke and perfume knocks me out for the day.  I have faith in God that I will never give into despair.  Sometimes that means that I have to be in a fighting mood to get things done.  Otherwise, it is easy just to give into the lung pain.  If I didn't have my new medicine, Spiriva, I would not be doing as well as I am!
